This silicone rosary is named after St. John Paul II, born Karol Jozef Wojtyla in May 1920 .  John Paul II had an incredible devotion to Mary.  As a young child, his own mother passed away. It was then that his devotion to Mary began to grow as he looked to her as his mother. His devotion to Mary led him to incorporating the color for Mary (blue) into his Papal coat of arms.  He also had the Marian “M” put on it.

John Paul II did not have an easy life. As mentioned above, he lost his mother at a young age. Just a few years after her death, his brother passed away.  When he was a young man, his father died.  In addition to the loss of his family, John Paul II lived through the Nazi occupation of Poland. When he decided to pursue the priesthood, he had to attend seminary in secret.

Although his life was marked by suffering, John Paul II found enjoyment in many things.  He thoroughly enjoyed hiking, skiing, and theater.  In fact, John Paul II wrote his own play!

Once a priest, John Paul II served in Poland. It was not long before he was made a bishop and eventually a cardinal.  HIs intelligence and genuine faith put him into many different prominent positions. In 1978, he became pope. While pope, John Paul II visited over 100 countries. He started World Youth Day. Wrote countless documents.

One of the more poignant moments of his papacy was when he was shot in St. Peter’s Square. He recovered from the assassination attempt and met and forgave his attacker. However, a significant moment in this event was when John Paul II was laying on the ground of St. Peter’s Square after being shot.  As he lay there, he searched around himself looking for an image of his Mother Mary.  He searched and searched, but could not find one. As hard as it is to believe, there was no image of Mary in the square at that time. After recovering, John Paul II remedied this.  He had an image of Mary placed on the side of a building overlooking the square. The most advantageous place to see it is in the exact spot where John Paul II was shot.

John Paul II did so much for the Church and the world. Let us pray for his intercession and strive for the same devotion he had to Mary.

John Paul II, pray for us!
