Mama Necklaces are a wonderful accessory for both baby and mama! They are cute and comfy to wear, but are durable and can endure the tugging of your little one. They are also incredibly helpful to have when your little one is teething.
The Desert Mothers, orAmmaswere 4th and 5th century women who left behind the ways of the world and set up hermitages in the hills of Syria, Palestine and Egypt. They were highly respected in their communities and both men and women came to them to seek spiritual direction. There is no clear number on how many Desert Mothers there were, some experts say there were double the amount of women in the desert compared to men. We also do not have many writings from them. However, the sayings from Amma Theodora, Syncletica, Sarah and Matrona were preserved. Amma Syncletica herself has 27 sayings attributed to her. Like the Desert Fathers, the Desert Mothers can still teach us so much today on humility, fasting and prayer.
We’ll leave you with our favorite bit of wisdom from Amma Syncletica:
“There is struggling and toil at first,” teaches Amma Syncletica, “for all those advancing toward God; but afterward, my children, inexpressible joy. Indeed, just as those seeking to light a fire at first are engulfed in smoke and teary-eyed, thus they obtain what they seek. As it is said, ‘Our God is a consuming fire’ (Heb. 12:29). So, we ought to kindle the Divine Fire in ourselves with tears and toil.”
Why Desert Mothers for the collection: the mauve, carmel and brick red is reminiscent of the hues of the desert, ever shifting and changing depending on how the sun hits the sand and surrounding hills. The blues and greens are a reminder that even in the desert, water comes and green life springs forth. So often our prayer lives can feel like a desert- dry. But as the Son hits those dry spots He illuminates what we can work on. When consolation comes, when it rains down on our weary souls we feel the growth the Lord has done on us during our time in the dryness.
