Born in 1602 to noble parents, Venerable Mary Agreda grew up exemplifying grace from a young age. At the age of 6 she had attained such a degree of prayer that she was allowed to receive Holy communion and practice works of penance. At 17, Ven. Mary entered the convent of the Poor Clares. She was known for her unassuming humility and kindness of heart which was seen by her fellow sisters and led to her election as Mother Superior at the young age of 25. Even as Superior she kept to her life of lowly work and deep prayer. Her prayer being so deep that she is known for the private revelations on the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary, recorded in the books The Mystical City of God.
